Having been inspired by the sporting culture and ethos of Australia, I was really looking forward to heading there in May 2018. And I must admit, I got much more out of this trip than I had ever thought of.
Landing in Brisbane we headed to Gold Coast-a weekend destination for the Aussies with its lovely beach and many amusement parks to choose from. There’s nothing like a helicopter ride to enjoy a bird’s eye view of this fun town with its beach homes, fields, and greenery. For me, the highlight amongst all amusement parks was experiencing the thrills of roller coaster rides and posing for pictures with my favourite superstars from Warner Bros.
A visit to Australia is incomplete without deep-sea diving and experiencing the colourful corals in the Great Barrier Reef. It was such an out-of-the-world experience, that it seemed as if I had stepped into a new world. The cricket aficionado in me took over completely when we visited the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground. The next day we drove along the Great Ocean Road, considered one of the most picturesque drives in the world. The light drizzle ending in a colourful curve of the rainbow against the 12 Apostles was a sight that will stay with me forever.
Our last destination was the business and entertainment hub of Australia – Sydney. The iconic Opera House, Sydney Harbour, Bondi Beach, and innumerable shopping malls of Sydney have a pull effect that is difficult to describe. When in Sydney, you must find time to visit the pretty zoo to see the kangaroos, koalas, and penguins and the shows too.
Australia, in my view, is the perfect holiday destination. It packs everything – adventure, sports, natural beauty, beaches, amusement parks, mountains, and wildlife. It was an unforgettable trip.
