Climate change- its devastating effects

Climate change has become a major global concern. These climatic changes are having various impacts on the ecosystem and ecology. Due to these changes, many species of plants and animals have gone extinct. Even though there is supposed to be a heating period of the earth this period has arrived earlier than it was supposed to due to these changes (it is supposed to come after some decades). A recent report from the United Nations predicted that the average global temperature could increase by 6˚ Celsius at the end of the century.

Greenhouse gases warm the climate, causing more water to evaporate from oceans and rivers into the atmosphere. Warmer air holds more water which could lead to heavier rainfall and flooding. Sure we already had floods long before humans started warming the planet. Yet climate modeling proves that one in four record rainfall events in the last decade can be attributed to climate change. These changes cause devastating effects like floods. These floods have been causes of destruction of property and life. It has even caused the monsoon season in September when the winter season is supposed to start. Metrologists are almost certain that the persistent rains will continue till October over northwest India. these rains are causing many problems for farmers and others.

Man due to his need and greed has done many activities that not only harm the environment but himself too. Human activities like deforestation, fossil fuel use, pollution, and industrial waste harm the environment and climate, leading to the extinction of many plant and animal species. Hunting also threatens wildlife. These actions damage ecosystems, putting numerous species on the brink of extinction, and also negatively impacting humans and the natural world they depend on. Senior IMD scientist Dr. DS Pai noted that the world is already 1.1 degrees warmer than pre-industrial levels.

Global warming, along with the melting of polar ice, has far-reaching effects on ecosystems and people worldwide. Rising temperatures cause ice in the Arctic and Antarctic to melt, leading to higher sea levels, which in turn threaten coastal cities and low-lying areas with flooding and erosion. The alteration of global ocean currents and weather patterns leads to the development of more intense and less predictable phenomena such as cyclones and droughts, as well as the displacement of farming regions. The disappearance of polar habitats is also unfavorable for wildlife and biology as a whole and affects the ecosystem. This has devastating effects on the people, use economies of countries, and Biophysical environments due to the changes that take place in these.

Everyone can help limit climate change. We should use natural energy sources like wind,  water currents, and solar energy. Use less energy by switching to energy-efficient electric appliances and washing your laundry with cold water, or hanging things to dry instead of using a dryer. We should Walk or ride a bike instead of driving cars as it will reduce greenhouse gas emissions – and help our health and fitness. For longer distances, consider taking a train, bus, or carpool. We should compost any leftovers of food. Electronics, clothes, and other items we buy cause carbon emissions at each point in production, from the extraction of raw materials to

manufacturing and transporting goods to market. To protect our climate, buy fewer things, shop second-hand, repair what you can, and recycle.
