Misunderstandings and Misconceptions

It was raining hard that night. In my hurry to get into the house, I didn't notice the car parked across the road. I realized something was wrong when I bent down to get hold of my spare keys, as I had forgotten my usual set at home. It was not there. I frantically checked again and was quite surprised to find it missing.

I, a college graduate and apparently not very good at hiding keys was living alone for a few years in a vain attempt to become independent. Still not having recovered from the shock of finding the house keys missing and thanking my amazing luck of forgetting my keys the very same day I tried recollecting some ‘life hacks’ to open the door without the keys.

In a forceful habit, I first looked around to check no one was looking, somehow feeling guilty about breaking into my own house.

My eyes fell upon a black SUV, exactly the type of car they use in horror movies to kidnap children. I freaked out. Being the very optimistic person I was, I started thinking about the neverending ways the kidnappers could kill me tonight. I was scared to death and my hands were trembling. Wildly removing a bobby pin from my hair I desperately started trying to open the door with it, emphasis on trying. All thanks to my clumsy hands, I could not get the door to open. I started shouting like a crazy person thinking someone would come to protect me, still not knowing from what though. Suddenly the front door opened.

In an attempt to protect me from the obviously cruel person who had taken over my house, I started punching wildly into the air hoping at least one would hit its target. The person started shouting, and recognizing the voice, I immediately stopped. An equally confused man was standing in front of me. I asked my dad what he was doing there in the middle of the night. Still very confused, he explained that his friend was staying somewhere near my house and he wanted to meet him, so he had come to stay with me for the night.

Still not convinced, I questioned him about the black car, to which he replied that his friend had left it there for a night as it was raining very heavily and he did not want to drive it. It was his chance to ask questions now. He asked me about what just happened, embarrassed, I told him the whole story. He could not stop laughing and told everyone he met what happened.

Guess I should not watch a lot of horror movies at night anymore.
