Mr. Ratan Tata - A True Gentleman and a Visionary Trailblazer

"I want to remember your face so that when I meet you in heaven, I can recognize you and thank you once again."     Ratan. N. Tata

Mr. Ratan Naval Tata, the former chairperson of Tata Group, sadly left this world on 9th October 2024 at the age of 86, leaving a great void’ not just leaving  behind his vast empire, but also impacting the people of our nation through his contributions in ways that touch our minds and hearts, as a source of inspiration and passing down a legacy of innovation, integrity and philanthropy.

More than anything, Ratan Tata was known for his humility and honesty, which distinguished him from other industrialists. Although Mukesh Ambani and Adani rapidly expanded  the Indian economy, Ratan Tata’s patient and holistic approach towards the Tata Group development spoke about his profound character and a person of effective leadership, making the industry self sustainable and at the same time, building its image towards the people, generating goodwill, which is now also known across the globe, through Ford and Tetley Tea.

He was a man of principles, commitment and integrity, and these qualities were the foundation of the Tata Group. His efforts and contributions ensured the stability of the industry, and it grew exponentially over the years to make Tata what it is today.

Sixty six percent of his industry is held by philanthropic trusts, which serves as a pillar of support in the fields of education, health, livelihood generation, art and culture with the aim 'To improve the quality of life’.

In 2018, Prince Charles wished to felicitate Ratan Tata with the Lifetime Achievement Award for philanthropy at Buckingham Palace, however, a few days before the event, Ratan Tata's dog had fallen terribly ill. Due to this, Ratan Tata simply said that he did not have the heart to leave his ailing dog behind. On receiving this news, Prince Charles said that, that was a man who Ratan Tata was, and that was why Tata was on a stable course.

Ratan Tata never expected anything in return and only gave back knowledge, respect and kindness to the community, which spoke a thousand words about his character and it forever will, resonating through the heart of the Indian Industry and in the souls of its people.  He was the difference between industrialists and businessmen and as we mourn his loss, we should also celebrate his extraordinary life and vow to honour his memory by continuing to uphold the values he cherished.
