“A book is a gift you can open again and again.” - Garrison Keillor
In today's fast-moving world, most of us are extremely busy in our daily routines. We rarely find time to relax and rejuvenate. In the little free time we get we are often on devices, watching shows or movies. However, we never realize the importance of reading. Reading can benefit us in many ways.
Reading is a fantastic hobby that many of us must inculcate in our lives. Reading books can help in our character development. When we read books we learn to see a situation from different perspectives. Fiction readers are often more empathetic as they imagine themselves in the place of the other person and try to understand their feelings. Spiritual books can bring inner peace and tranquillity, mystery novels can provoke us to think, fiction books improve our imagination, non-fiction books teach us many important lessons about life and educational books improve our knowledge. Thus the many genres of literature have their own benefits.
The biggest benefit of reading is that it helps reduce our stress. When we are engrossed in a book we forget the worries and stresses of our daily lives. A well-written book can transport us to realms of our imagination. Reading also enhances our writing skills and vocabulary. It broadens our horizons and helps us to develop a perspective. As George Martin once said, a reader lives a thousand lives before they die.
There's nothing like sitting and reading a good book. If one loves reading, they can never be alone. When we read a book we embark on a beautiful journey. Books are incredibly powerful; they can engage us and take us on an adventure and influence the way we think.
“The more that you read the more things you will know. The more you learn the more places you’ll go!”-Dr Seuss.
