I was scuba diving in the cerulean waters of Greece, observing the multi-hued aquatic life around me. Just then I saw an aurelian gate. I swam closer; the gate blazed and blasted open, ocean current dragging me into the premise inside it. I saw marine life, few of which I didn't know. My eyes popped out as I saw an animal who I had read about in myths- a hippocampus. Just as I was looking at the scene around me, I noticed that my scuba diving suit and accessories were gone and I was wearing my beach clothes. I was still breathing without my cylinder. My skin wasn't wet. I could hear chatter in the back of my mind. I was going bonkers since I entered this place. At that moment when I was being driven crazy by the incidents taking place around me. I saw a silhouette which I perceived to be a mermaid.
Making her way to me, the creatures bowed down to her. Her silver hair and tail seemed to make the blue color of her eyes stand out. She had also adorned her hair with flowers somewhat matching the shade of her eyes. “Welcome, you must be the visitor His Highness is awaiting” she said as her eyes looked into my brown ones. “I’m sorry but I don’t have any clue of what you are saying” I replied, perplexed by what had happened.
Unanticipated, I felt her fingers grip my wrist as she swam through the waters and reached a place where she stopped and commanded me to answer all of His Highness’s questions with truthfulness. I opened my mouth to ask a question, she said “Yes, I am aware that you have many questions in your mind. You will find the answer to them soon.”
The guards parted their ways to let us in, the inside of the castle was decorated with tapestries which, the mermaid told me, were made by the goddess Athena herself. After a prolonged walk down the hallway of the castle we reached the throne room of the King.
“Greetings, you may be pondering why have I bought you here, disrupting your vacation? I have to convey a message of importance. So you see I am Poseidon-” interrupting him, I said “God of the waters.” I said this feeling instant regret. “You know quite a lot about Greeks, that just makes both our jobs easier” he said, “Oceanus left a part of himself in a boat, and died, the boat was your forefathers, ever since your family has the responsibility of keeping that boat and Oceanus’ soul safe . Your knowledge about Greeks is because of this. I hope you keep the tradition alive.”
Bowing, the mermaid exited the room with me. The mermaid led me to the gate and said “Follow this fish, he will show you the way to your boat. Remember that this is the first and last time you will experience this-talking to a God, cherish it. You will retain one gift, breathing below water and conversing with aquatic life and horses.” waving her hand she bid me adieu. The only thing I could think about the whole swim was, my meeting with the God.
