Social Media: a Sham

Social media and endless scrolling go hand in hand. Have you ever opened your phone to do some task that takes only two minutes, but you ended up spending twenty minutes instead? And yet somehow didn't manage to finish your work? Most people (including myself) have the same problem. We mindlessly scroll through social media for hours on end and end up doing nothing productive, watching videos of the most random things. We tend to lose ourselves in its midst.

Presently, another rising concern is that underage users such as teens and children are plenty. Most apps require users to be above the age of thirteen. However, we see more and more kids joining such platforms. You can easily lie about your age in order to get on the app, despite it being a legal offense. Social media in general is scary for adults, imagine being a child scrolling through clips of people older than them and then trying to imitate them, online and in real life. This can be extremely dangerous.

On social media, only the most perfect pictures are posted. This leads to envy of the person's aesthetic life. Everyones lives are messy too but no one posts pictures of those moments. To put it quite plainly, social media is fake. Half of what we see there is only half true. You never know what is actually happening behind the screen from that one picture, that was probably taken a couple of times, before getting the flawless shot that is posted online. To conclude, one must not compare ordinary moments of one's life to immaculate pictures, to do so is harmful to oneself.
