The Fear of Being “ME”

Expressing yourself is already a hard task. What makes it harder is the judgement and the taunts passed by society. This judgement is what makes it harder for us to open up, realize our worth and achieve anything in life, may it be long-term or short-term. We are constantly burdened and held down by the baggage we hold in our minds.

From the view of teenagers, we are constantly overcast with the fear of judgement which causes us to ask ourselves questions such as “Is what I’m feeling valid?” “Do I look good in this picture? Is it worthy to post for the world to see?” “Is my financial/social status enough?” This may not seem like a serious issue at first but this leads to doubting yourself, having issues in decision making and poor mental state. What makes it harder for us is when individuals start to judge us based on others’ opinions. It is an extremely dangerous time when we tend to follow a visual that has been presented to us instead of forming our own opinions and thoughts. In not doing so, we give power to any individual to lead us and our thoughts on a particular topic. There is a constant fear of, “What will society say?” or the age old “log kya kahenge?!”

Right now, things have begun to change, the society has begun to change. People are now learning to accept and support each other. Instead of demoralizing those who walk with this initiative, we should join in and push forward for a brighter and happier chapter in the world. BREAK THE CHAIN OF HIDING BEHIND MASKS, OF HIDING YOUR TRUE SELF. SHOUT IT OUT LIKE A BIRD SET FREE.
