UTTARAKHAND: THE LAND OF THE GODS


Mussoorie, The Queen of the Hills, is a hill station on the foothills of the Himalayas. Due to its religious significance and the numerous temples and pilgrimage sites spread out over the state, it is frequently referred to as "Devbhumi," meaning "The Land of the Gods". Uttarakhand is the origin of the Ganga and Yamuna, two of Hinduism's holiest rivers. Badrinath and Kedarnath, Hinduism’s most auspicious pilgrimage sites are also located in this state.

Uttarakhand is an attractive tourist destination due to the location of many ancient temples and shrines, forest reserves and national parks, heritage sites, hill stations, and mountain peaks throughout the state.

Rishikesh, an only-vegetarian and alcohol-free city, is located on the banks of the holy river Ganga. It is known as the “Yoga Capital of the World” as it is a preeminent yoga center in India and due to numerous foreigners seeking to learn the Transcendental Meditation technique in this city.

Haridwar, the second largest city in Uttarakhand, serves as a land for several prominent places of worship. The most significant of its events is the Kumbh Mela, that is organized every 12 years when devotees, pilgrims and tourists gather to wash away their sins by performing the ritualistic bathing on the banks of Ganga.

The Jim Corbett National Park is the oldest and first national park of India, located in Nainital, Uttarakhand, established in 1936. This famed national park is famously known as a protective area for the endangered species of the Bengal tiger.
