VOCAL FOR LOCAL

'Vocal for Local' is not a freshly inaugurated concept. Going back into history, we see that the notion introduced during the Gandhian era wasn't any different. It has been more than 70 years since India attained its independence. However, the evolution of Indian industries has not been on par with western productions. The government has come up with the resolution of "self-reliant India." So as to accomplish the resolve, the Indians must opt for indigenous products over western, shoddy goods.

Mahatma Gandhi said it first. Swadeshi formed the bedrock for the ‘Father of the Nation’ whose fight was for Swaraj. The enemy then was a known, quantifiable force—a foreign subjugation. However, Mr Modi does not have that advantage. His foe is as much a veiled virus as it is the notions of economics.

Hence the battle-hard prime minister has dug into his arsenal of wordplay and come up with another catchphrase: vocal for local

To raise our flag high, we must raise our voice for local stocks. If we promote consciousness about the importance and pros of using products made in India, we all will be contributing our bit individually to make our nation grow. "Vocal for local should become the mantra for every Indian," quoted Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his 2021 Independence Day speech. He also announced a long-term goal to establish #atmanirbharbharat which translates to self-dependent India. India is going through a unique economic phase. It is about transit from a developing country to a developed country.

Local businesses have several benefits. They don't only benefit the entrepreneur but create a win-win situation that benefits us as consumers, the entrepreneur, and also benefits society as a whole. Hence, the country today calls out for your support towards local businesses so we can look forward to a self-reliant country and cut down the expenditure on imports.
