What’s best for me?

He said, "I'll be there, don’t you fret,"

But soon enough, he seemed to forget.

In crowded rooms, our voice was loud,

We swore our loyalty, so very proud.

Yet, when I needed him the very most,

He vanished- like a fading ghost.

I gave him love, I gave him trust,And in return, I got but dust.

He promised he’d be there, till the very end,As long- as I could still pretend.. That I was strong, I could bear the weight,But then I cracked.. t’was too late.

He says, "I'll be there, don’t you fret!"

But soon enough, he just forgets..

He says, "I'll be there, don’t you fret!"

But soon enough, he just forgets..

He knew of  the weight I couldn’t bear,The sleepless nights, the heavy air.I needed him, a friendship bright,A friend to stand with me and fight.

He swore he’d come, he’d ease the pain,But all I got was cold disdain.Just a brief text, no room for care:"Can't make it, sorry!" he left me there.

His "sorry" lost its meaning fast,A word he'd throw, an empty cast.I waited long- praying for it to heal,But soon enough, I just couldn't feel.

He says, "I'll be there, don’t you fret!"

But soon enough, he just forgets..

He says, "I'll be there, don’t you fret!"

But soon enough, he just forgets..

So with a heart that's torn in two,I let him go, I withdrew.

For holding on was breaking me—A friendship lost, but now; I am free.

So I walk away, no longer bound,

for we must leave the ones who let us down.

It’s a path we must tread- to finally see,

That letting go is best for ME.
